Cookie Policy

Effective date: 5 August 2026

This Cookie Policy explains what cookies are, which cookies and similar technologies letsgogermany.com ("we", "the site") uses, and how you can control them. It supplements our Privacy Policy.

What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files stored on your device (computer, phone, tablet) when you visit a website. They help websites remember your preferences, understand how the site is used, and — where you consent — deliver relevant advertising.

How we use cookies

We use cookies for three purposes:

CategoryPurposeExamples
EssentialRequired for the site to work and to remember your consent choicesOur consent banner preference (localStorage)
AnalyticsUnderstand how visitors use the site so we can improve itGoogle Analytics cookies (_ga, _gid, _gat)
AdvertisingServe and measure ads once Google AdSense is activeGoogle ad cookies (NID, IDE, _gcl_*)

Analytics cookies (Google Analytics 4)

We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand which pages are popular, how readers find us, and where content can be improved. GA4 uses cookies such as:

  • _ga — distinguishes unique users
  • _gid — distinguishes users within a short period
  • _gat — throttles request rate

GA4 data is anonymised (IP addresses are not fully stored), and we have configured the property with data retention limits. Analytics cookies are only activated after you accept them via our consent banner.

Advertising cookies (Google AdSense)

When advertising is active on the site, Google AdSense and its partners may use cookies to serve and personalise ads:

  • NID — used by Google to remember preferences
  • IDE — used for advertising personalisation and measurement
  • _gcl_* — conversion measurement

Personalised ads require your consent. If you reject non-essential cookies, you will only see non-personalised (contextual) ads, and Google will not build an advertising profile from your visits to this site.

You can manage personalised advertising at any time at Google Ads Settings, or through the consent banner on this site.

Third-party cookies

When you click links to external services (affiliate partners, comparison sites, banks, or government portals), those websites may set their own cookies. We do not control these third-party cookies — please check the privacy/cookie policy of the relevant service.

Managing & deleting cookies

You can control cookies in several ways:

  1. Our consent banner — the banner shown on your first visit lets you accept or reject non-essential cookies. Your choice is stored and can be changed at any time by clearing your browser data for this site.
  2. Browser settings — all major browsers let you block or delete cookies. See your browser's help pages (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge).
  3. Google Ads Settings — control how Google personalises ads for you: adssettings.google.com.
  4. YourOnlineChoices — the EU industry opt-out: youronlinechoices.eu.

Please note: blocking all cookies may affect parts of the site's functionality.

Consent

We process non-essential cookies (analytics and advertising) only with your consent, in line with the GDPR and the German TTDSG. When you choose "Accept all", you consent to the cookies described above. When you choose "Reject", only essential cookies are set.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Cookie Policy when our cookie usage changes (for example, when Google AdSense becomes active). The "Effective date" at the top reflects the latest revision.
